How many operating systems do we need?
We are currently running Fedora 7, RHEL 3 and CentOS 3 on our network here in 350 Nice. We really need to get things inline on a single OS. This will greatly simplify clustering and maintenance of the servers to provide High Availability (HA) of FaxIt Nice services.
Here’s the plan so far:
- Release FIN3.0 on one.350nice.com using one.350nice.com as the primary DB server
- Bring FIN 2.x down on two.350nice.com
- Modify faxitnice.com DNS records to indicate one.350nice.com is now primary web server for FIN
- Upgrade MySQL on three.350nice.com to 5.x
- Migrate FIN3.0 database back to three.350nice.com
- Install CentOS 5 on two.350nice.com
- Install FIN3.0 codebase on two.350nice.com
- Install OpenOffice.org headless server on two.350nice.com
- Setup Apache HA cluster using heartbeat and native tomcat cluster on one & two for HA of FIN
- (Maybe) Upgrade three.350nice.com to CentOS 5. This would require some downtime of FIN though. Downtime would occur either while we move primary fax lines to two.350nice.com or wait until the upgrade is complete and get three back online
